We all tend to foster stereotypes and biases, albeit with a bad conscience. After all, everyone knows that it is wrong to reduce specific mentalities down into clichés. Nevertheless, no one can deny having denounced or praised supposedly typical behaviour as clichés from time to time. In a research project at the Faculty of Design, we wanted to precisely find out: In the cultural areas along the Rhine River* have national visual idiosyncrasies vanished or does the same apply to the visual language as to the spoken language?
